Why You Should Always Use a Part P Registered Electrician
If you’re getting electrical work done in your home—whether it’s a new light fitting, a new Consumer Unit, a kitchen rewire, or an EV charger installed — make sure the person doing it is Part P Registered.
But what does that actually mean?
What is Part P Registered Electrician?
Part P is a section of the Building Regulations. It’s all about electrical safety in homes. It exists to protect people from fire and electric shocks caused by poor electrical work. Simple as that.
If an electrician is Part P Registered, it means they’re qualified and approved to carry out electrical work in domestic settings—and more importantly, they can self-certify their work with Building Control. So you don’t have to get the council involved, pay extra fees, or wait for an inspector.
Why it matters to you
Peace of mind – You know the work’s been done safely and legally.
No hassle – The paperwork’s all sorted, and you’ll get a certificate for your records.
Protects your home insurance and resale value – Uncertified electrical work can cause problems when you sell your home or if you ever need to claim on insurance.
Accountability – Part P sparks are assessed regularly, so if anything goes wrong, there’s a clear process to put it right.
What I see locally
I’ve been called out more than once to fix work done by someone who wasn’t qualified—or worse, who left it unsafe. When it comes to electricity, shortcuts just don’t pay off.
