Being a member of NAPIT also ensures that I am able to sign-off on any "notifiable" works, for example, a new consumer unit or work in a bathroom or kitchen is notifiable, as is creating any new circuits - you can read more about when I obtained my membership here. Before any electrical work is undertaken I will test your electrical installation to ensure that everything is at least safe and that any additional electrical work can take place.
