WHO AM I?
For those of you who don’t know, up until 2022 I had been a Head of Music/Department in a Secondary School in Bristol, and I decided to retrain, and since then I’ve not looked back and really enjoy being Your Local Electrician!
So, why I am not on Checkatrade, etc…
I can honestly say that it’s been tough not giving in and joining these “Lead Generation” sites at times, especially at less busy times throughout a year and being a new electrician and tradesman means that I might not be as well known as businesses that have been around for far longer! However, I like to try and speak to my customers directly by using Social Media such as YouTube, Facebook and via my own Website. You can find a little more about me by watching this above!
What are Lead Generation Sites?
Checkatrade, My Builder and other Lead Generation sites might make it easier for you, the customer, as they're all in one place, but for tradesmen and women, it can be a very real race to the bottom and trust me, not all the best ones will be found there. Not only do they tie tradesmen and women into contracts that you can’t get out of - believe me, the first month might be great but once you’re tied in… those leads will fall, but we often have to compete with customers that are only looking for the cheapest prices and not necessarily good workmanship. All businesses have overheads, and these Lead Generation sites are only concerned with theirs!
This is where I, as a Local Tradesman and business owner, excel! I have to offer excellent customer service, otherwise word will get around that that “Speller’s Sparks Guy…, don’t use him, he’s rubbish!!” And, as you can see from my customers testimonials, that’s just not the case with me. I have been really proud and honoured to be able to serve my local community by offering a level of service not usually found from tradesmen and women, one that offers all those guarantees… and while there will be many good trades on these sites, there are some that hide behind its so-called 12-point checklists!
Chekatrade, for example, states that they ensure that all their builders, electricians etc have been vetted, however in my experience and having heard from both trades on the site and customers too, that this isn’t always true. Not only this, but all their tradesmen offer 1 year guarantees etc! Well, I offer all of this and more. I offer this guarantee regardless of whether My Builder, Checkatrade etc claim they enforce.

I have made one exception and have decided to sign up to be a Which Trusted Trader, it's not a lead generation site but it is a trusted brand and this is what I am to be for any of my customers! Which do put their tradesmen and women though a rigorous process, such as checking out the invoicing process, how I communicate and gather testimonials from my past customers, they don’t tie you into contracts and if I, the person paying for their service, is unhappy then I can simply leave.
