Electrical Certification

Building Regulations

Level 3 (603-0149/1)

The Building Regulations are a vast array of requirements that all trades people should adhere. For example, your cabling should be within the "safe wiring zones" as stated within BS 7671 and "adequate mechanical protection" should also be considered with regards to the external influences the cables may encounter.

Your local electrician, serving Radstock and all surrounding areas, will always follow the electrical wiring regulations

Electrical Installations

Level 3 BS 7671: 2018

The BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations is a 500+ page document that covers all regulations with regards to Electrical Installations. In short, these apply to the design, erection and verification and also additions and alterations of existing electrical installations. Specifically, this covers information on the installation of electrical circuits in "Special Locations", such as bathrooms or swimming pools and saunas, and notes the requirement that all socket outlets have Additional 30mA RCD Protection.

Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points

Level 3 (603/3929/9)

All installers of EV Equipment should have a qualification with regards to the installation of EV Charging Equipment. For example, Electric Vehicles require DC current, and our homes are supplied with AC current and there are also various modes (1-4) that need to be considered by the consumer and installer when it comes to the installation of your new charging point.

Fundamental Inspection, Testing & Initial Verification

Level 3 (603/3929/9)

As part of my visit you will receive a free "Health Check" on your current electrical wiring/setup, both visually and tested with dedicated technical equipment (MFT). Testing & Inspection is all part of the work an electrician must undertake before, during and after the installation of existing and new circuits - especially if new wiring has been added to an existing circuit i.e. can the existing circuit adequately cope with the additional demand i.e is the volt drop within the required limit? If there is an issue with any element of your installation it will be highlighted to you for your own personal safety.

In-Service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT)

Level 3 Award 600/4340/4

Portable Appliances in certain settings, such as office or commercial buildings, need to tested to ensure they are safe for continued use. As you can imagine some items are used and possibly abused a lot more than others, PAT testing ensures that these items remain safe and will not cause fire or electric shock to those people using them.

Initial Verification & Certification of Electrical Installations

Level 3 Award 600/4337/4

Initial Verification is the installation of new circuits & the Testing and Inspection of the new electrical installation that precedes this. The most common scenario being New Build properties and newly built or renovated commercial & industrial settings.

Periodic Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations

Level 3 Award 600/4338/6

All installations have a recommended Testing & Inspection timeline. For domestic properties it is recommended that this happens, on average, every 10 years. For rented properties the recommendation is 5 years or at every change of occupancy. It is up to the home owner, landlord or business owner to have these checks carried out. It is not the job of the electrician to enforce this, it is up to the homeowner, business owner or landlord to ensure that they understand the importance of ensuring their homes, properties and businesses are safe for continued use.
